The UK Black Comms Network responds to the PRCA 2020 Census:

“The latest PRCA census shows that there is still much work to be done to increase the number and seniority of Black talent within the communications industry. In order to meaningfully address the industry’s diversity challenges, the focus needs to go beyond attracting Black PR and comms professionals and address the retention of talented employees.

”Our research found that Black employees were more likely to receive written or verbal praise for their efforts in the workplace than a pay rise, bonus or promotion which are the gateway to senior leadership roles. This bottlenecking of Black talent ultimately leads to a brain drain, and is one of the reasons that the face of senior leadership teams have remained largely unchanged. We established the UK Black Comms Network as we want to work with the wider industry and existing initiatives to ensure that more Black talent is retained and able to thrive.”
